Five years ago

  • I was 17

  • I was in the 12th, not studying for my boards

  • Wrestling was my favourite sport

  • John Grisham was my favourite author

  • My father still cut my fingernails

  • The Gujarat earthquake happened and we had just finished saluting the flag at “school”

  • I had an enormous collection of rock music and metallica were Gods
The last one year

  • Metallica are still Gods

  • This time last year, I came back to Bombay after staying for 17 days in Jamshedpur and completing IDC. The freaking sun over there sets at 5 in the evening. The trip back consisted of 6 people, no confirmed tickets in third ac which made it even more difficult and a 42 hour journey. I stole blankets of fellow passengers for the rest of us, tried sleeping in the bathroom, got abused by the tt, tried standing sleep, but finally reached Bombay. I was exhausted, famished, malnutritioned and I had lots of euros and dollars with me unluckily I couldn’t eat them.

  • One evening while trying to read René Descartes I almost saw “The light” but didn’t reach there fully.

  • Amit used to cut my fingernails as he was my roomie

  • The urge to become a snake wrangler got stronger

Yesterday

  • Cut my fingernails, myself

  • Read halfway through Adrian Mole – The wilderness years and Gods Debris

Lucky bastard... you got 3rd AC back?! I got a fricking general compartment back on that train in 2002, the remaining travel conditions were the same.

And atleast you had the option of eating your Euros and dollars - I was travelling with exactly Rs. 70 in my pocket.
